Nearly a Thousand Packs of Illegal Medicines Seized at the Navoi Checkpoint
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Customs officers at the Navoi checkpoint in the Tashkent region have thwarted an attempt to illegally import a large consignment of medicines without accompanying documentation or quality assurances. In total, nearly one thousand packs of pharmaceuticals were seized, the customs service press office reported.
According to the authorities, customs officers became suspicious of one individual whose behavior raised concerns. During a personal inspection, 277 units of medicines were discovered hidden in the man’s shoes and clothing pockets, concealed in places not intended for transportation.
In another case, an inspection was carried out using specialized technical equipment. It was established that a second individual had attempted to smuggle 235 units of medicines by taping them to his body around the abdomen and waist.
In addition, during the inspection of a third individual’s hand luggage, customs officers identified 300 units of pharmaceutical products being imported without the required permits and, according to preliminary information, intended for further sale.
Checks are currently under way in all identified cases. Customs authorities have reiterated that the illegal importation of medicines poses a serious threat to public health and entails liability in accordance with the law.
