Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Nearly 200,000 residents of Uzbekistan have faced restrictions on electricity payments due to outstanding debts for waste collection services, the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development reported.
As of 5 February, more than 1.17 million subscribers nationwide had accumulated debts for waste removal services totaling 108.9 billion soums. All debtors received warning SMS notifications demanding repayment.
Following the notifications, subscribers were given a five-day period to settle their debts, during which 12.7 billion soums were paid. However, restrictions on electricity payments were imposed on 198,858 subscribers who did not comply, with their total outstanding debt amounting to 15.8 billion soums.
The agency emphasized that the restrictions will be lifted once the full debt for waste collection services is cleared.
