Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan has prepared information under the heading “New Uzbekistan and Human Rights”. This was reported by the press service of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
It highlights the main directions of public policy for the period 2018-2019 on the implementation of personal, political, economic and social rights, the development of national human rights institutions and the role of civil society institutions in protecting human rights, the initiatives of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights in the international arena, the implementation of international human rights treaties.
The Information contains a detailed report on the work done in recent years to ensure the implementation of international human rights obligations, the creation of a legislative and institutional framework for observing and protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, the formation of a system for monitoring compliance with constitutional human rights and freedoms, and the development of cooperation with international and regional human rights protection mechanisms.
At the same time, the information indicates systemic problems in the implementation of international human rights treaties that adversely affect the effective implementation of international standards, ensuring reliable protection of the rights and freedoms of citizens, which impedes the effective implementation of democratic reforms and the sustainable development of a national model for protecting human rights.
In order to effectively fulfill the obligations arising from international treaties of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights, comprehensive solutions are proposed. In particular, in order to improve the mechanism for protecting human rights, it is proposed to adopt the National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on human rights, improve legislation to ensure human rights based on recommendations of international and regional organizations, develop human rights education, etc.
Preparation by the NCHR of information on the progress of the country’s implementation of international treaties in the field of human rights and freedoms is carried out in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 10, 2018 “On improving the activities of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights”.
In Uzbekistan, the promotion, observance and protection of human rights are considered as one of the priorities of state policy. Today, the country has developed its own model of systematic and phased implementation of international human rights standards in national legislation and law enforcement practice.
Currently, Uzbekistan has joined more than 70 major international human rights instruments, including 6 UN core treaties and 4 Optional Protocols, on the implementation of which national reports are regularly submitted to the Human Rights Council and UN treaty committees.
