National Human Rights Center and UNDP Sign Memorandum of Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 December, the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The ceremony took place at the House of Human Rights as part of events dedicated to International Human Rights Day.
The document was signed by the Director of the National Human Rights Center, Akmal Saidov, and the UNDP Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, Akiko Fuji.
According to the parties, the memorandum is aimed at supporting the implementation of key reforms in the field of human rights, enhancing transparency and accountability, and promoting responsible business practices.
The implementation of the agreement will contribute to creating a more inclusive, sustainable, and competitive business environment.
The cooperation includes the development of mechanisms to protect human rights and freedoms in priority areas—from combating poverty and inequality to ensuring quality education, strengthening gender equality, improving the efficiency of state institutions, and expanding access to justice.
The Uzbek side expressed gratitude to UNDP for its assistance in preparing national reviews and reports on the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as for supporting the reflection of the links between socio-economic progress and respect for human rights.
UNDP, which has a presence in nearly 170 countries, is one of Uzbekistan’s key partners in sustainable development, poverty eradication, women’s empowerment, and strengthening effective governance.
