Narbaeva: “Important measures have been taken to ensure equality between women and men”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An international forum on the theme “Development of Partnership on Gender and Youth in the 21st Century” was held today at the Palace of International Forums “Uzbekistan”.

This event was attended by more than 50 foreign and about 100 national experts, and Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, participated and spoke.

In her speech, the Chaiprtson of the Senate dwelt on such important issues for all states as ensuring gender equality, decent protection and support of the rights and interests of youth and women, as well as migration.

Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, said:

- As you know, for many countries the issues of gender and youth are very relevant, which are the goals of sustainable development of the UN. In our country over the past three years, important measures have been taken to increase the socio-political activity of women and their participation in public administration. Work in this direction is ongoing.

The President’s words that “every woman should not only observe democratic processes, but also take an active part in them”, are a clear confirmation of this.

The desire of the state to solve these issues in practice is reflected in a number of laws. In a short period of time, about 20 legal acts aimed at comprehensively ensuring the rights and interests of women have been adopted. In particular, the adoption of the laws “On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women” and “On the Protection of Women from Harassment and Violence” strengthened the legal framework in this direction.

In order to further improve the systematic work carried out among women and families, the Commission on Gender Equality of the Republic of Uzbekistan was formed, the activities of the Scientific and Practical Research Center "Oila", which was included in the Government, were reorganized, the Concept on strengthening the institution of the family in the Republic of Uzbekistan was adopted.

Important measures are being taken in the field of ensuring equality between women and men, the most active women are nominating themselves for participation in an important political event - elections to be held at the end of this year. So, out of 750 candidates nominated for deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, women make up 41.3%, which indicates an increase in their socio-political activity.
