Narbaeva Discusses Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation with South Korean Parliament Speaker

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting with a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Woo Won-shik, who arrived in Uzbekistan on an official visit.

During the meeting, the sides discussed ways to further intensify Uzbek–Korean strategic partnership relations in the economic, cultural, humanitarian, and educational spheres, including the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

It was noted that the Uzbek language is taught at prestigious higher education institutions in the Republic of Korea, and that the format of meetings between the heads of parliaments of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea has proven to be an effective platform for constructive and trust-based dialogue.

The parties exchanged views on achieving practical and substantive agreements within the framework of the upcoming meeting in Tashkent, emphasizing the continued relevance of such engagements, as confirmed by the visits to Seoul in September 2023 and to Ashgabat in October 2024.

Particular attention was paid to active inter-parliamentary dialogue at all levels and to the role of parliamentary friendship groups in coordinating cooperation.

The delegations highly praised the implementation of a joint project with KOICA to introduce the “e-parliament” system, which contributes to improving the legislative process and enhancing the efficiency of parliamentary work.

At the conclusion of the visit, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won-shik made an entry in the Book of Honorary Guests, reaffirming his readiness to further deepen inter-parliamentary cooperation.
