Mural “Healthy Future” Unveiled in Tashkent on World Health Day
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A public mural titled Sog‘lom kelajak (“Healthy Future”) has been unveiled in Uzbekistan, dedicated to promoting the health of mothers and newborns.
The project was implemented by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Uzbekistan in partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan and marks the final stage of the 2025 World Health Day campaign under the slogan “A Healthy Start to Life – A Key to a Prosperous Future.”
The mural is displayed on the wall of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health. Its composition reflects the core principles of supportive family partnerships and trust-based interaction with medical personnel during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
Special attention is given to the importance of optimal birth spacing of at least 24 months, in accordance with WHO recommendations.
Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Elmira Basitkhanova emphasized that maternal and child health is one of the priority areas of Uzbekistan’s healthcare system and requires joint involvement from families, the medical community, and government institutions.
As part of the presentation, a series of videos was also shown, produced by WHO and the Ministry of Health with the participation of healthcare workers, volunteer students, and community activists. The videos cover topics such as respectful childbirth, breastfeeding, nutrition, and timely recognition of warning signs.
Dr. Natalia Nadirhanova, Director of the Republican Center for Maternal and Child Health, stressed the importance of providing qualified and attentive care at all stages of a woman’s journey: “It is vital that every woman feels supported and safe.”
WHO representative in Uzbekistan Dr. Asheena Khalakdina noted that public initiatives and creative projects help foster broader dialogue about health: “The mural is a way to attract attention and inspire joint action to protect the health of women and children.”
The mural’s creation is part of comprehensive cooperation between WHO, the Ministry of Health, UNICEF, and UNFPA in the field of perinatal and maternal care. In particular, 31 clinical protocols in obstetrics, gynecology, and neonatology have been updated, training for specialists is underway, and laboratory systems are being strengthened to meet international standards.
