MPs consider implementation of law “On preventing micronutrient deficiency among population”

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Committee on labour and social issues of the Legislative Chamber of Uzbekistan held a session to discuss results of the study on execution of the law “On preventing micronutrient deficiency among population” in Kashkadarya region.

MPs of Legislative Chamber, officials of Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Public Education, Ministry of interior affairs, State Customs Committee, and others participated in the event, the press service of the lower house of parliament said.

According to scientists, micronutrient deficiency is one of reason for weak human immunity and this results in many illnesses among mothers and children. It also negatively impacts to intellectual and physical development of youth.

To solve this problem, Uzbekistan adopted a law “On preventing micronutrient deficiency among population” in 2010. Within the law, the effective system in this sphere was created. The law created mechanism on enriching flour with vitamins. In 2013, the flour production enterprises and Ministry of Healthcare purchased 165 tonnes of vitamin-mineral mixtures.

The session considered a report of working group, which analyzed implementation of the law in Kashkadarya region. It was noted that along with positive factors some shortages were revealed in implementation of the law in the region.

It was noted that the region did not implement territorial programme on preventing micronutrient deficiency among population and the commission on coordination of flour producers in the region did not meet.

The study also revealed that some producers failed to meet requirements on storage of grain, which directly impacts quality of product. They also failed to meet fire safety and sanitary services. They also did not meet labour safety rules.

The committee adopted a corresponding decision after the discussion of the results of the study.
