MPs consider execution of law “On information-library activities”

MPs, representatives of local administration, the State Committee of communication, information and telecommunication technologies, National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi and others participated at the event.

The participants underlined that Uzbekistan carries out huge work on creation of principally new information-resource centers, oriented to satisfy intellectual needs of population, preserve cultural and spiritual values. The special attention is paid to organizational and financial-economic, as well as technical mechanism of developing information-library and information-resource centers, the press-service of the Legislative Chamber said.

The attendees said that the law “On information-library activities” was adopted in 2011 and it helped to determine new status and function of information-library establishments and allowed to strengthen material-technical base and cadre structure of information-resource center to provide high quality services to population.

The committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis on information and communication technologies studied execution of the law “On information-library activities” in Karakalpakstan and Andijan region.

It was noted that these two regions adopted corresponding normative acts and carry out works on developing information-library establishments, increasing number of literature and information resources, introducing information-communication technologies in library affairs, expanding access of population to information-library resources. Organizational-technical measures were carried out with use of ICT to increase efficiency of information-library establishments.

The study revealed that 854 information-library establishments with total fund of 5.3 million units of publications are working in Karakalpakstan and 921 information-library establishments with 6.9 million publications – in Andijan region.

The information-library institutions were connected to Internet and ZiyoNet educational network. The systems to automate library processes were installed at the institutions. The information-library institutions were equipped with computer and multimedia technologies and number of computers, copy and scanner equipment doubled in last two years.

The information-library institutions also provide services to people with disabled people. For example, Karakalpakstan Information Library Center has reading room for blind. The library has 55,440 special books, 9,908 audio books and 112 electronic discs.

The MPs also underlined several shortages in implementation of the regions in Karakalpakstan and Andijan region. It was noted ineffective work on integration of information processes to the library activities, gathering and processing information, digitalization of funds, etc.

At the end of the session, the committee adopted decision directed on improving activities of the library-information institutions.
