MPE and ADB discuss possible areas of cooperation to improve the quality of education

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan (MPE) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have begun negotiations to identify promising areas of cooperation between the parties.

Sherzod Shermatov, Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan, accepted an ADB mission led by Xin Long, a senior social sector specialist. It was noted that the main task of the Ministry is to improve the quality of education.

Representatives of the mission noted that the ADB is now working on a program of cooperation with Uzbekistan for 2020-2022, and this meeting is aimed at identifying possible areas of cooperation with the MPE.

During the meeting, ADB experts familiarized themselves with the main directions of reforming the public education system.

In particular, the parties discussed the possible participation of ADB in improving the infrastructure of schools, including within the framework of the Modern School program, the introduction of student knowledge assessment systems and teacher competence, as well as student training programs.

Among the areas of cooperation, the sides discussed were issues of introducing information technologies and improving the teaching of STEAM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) into the public education system.

The parties agreed to discuss and work out the preparation of joint projects, the implementation of which will be implemented with financial support from ADB and other international donors.
