MP Requests Clarifications from Authorities on Possible Personal Data Leak

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Muhammadjon Valiev, a deputy of the Legislative Chamber, has submitted an official inquiry to the Minister of Digital Technologies, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Chairman of the National Statistics Committee regarding a possible leak of citizens’ personal data.

Earlier, information circulated online about a potential compromise of the e-government server, which could have exposed the data of millions of citizens, raising concerns over legal and financial security. In his inquiry, Valiev, representing the SDP “Adolat,” emphasized the need for clarifications and concrete measures from the relevant authorities.

From Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov, Valiev asked for confirmation or denial of the data leak, details on data protection levels, the causes of the incident, and the technical and organizational steps being taken to prevent similar situations in the future, including measures to safeguard the state authentication infrastructure (OAuth server) and the my.gov.uz portal.

Minister of Internal Affairs Aziz Tashpulatov was requested to provide information on operational and investigative measures, identification of the perpetrators of the cyberattack, strengthening prevention of crimes involving personal data, and proposals for improving legislation and law enforcement practices in this field.

Chairman of the National Statistics Committee Behzod Khamraev was asked to explain measures for storing and protecting statistical data collected during population and agricultural censuses, as well as compliance with the Law “On Personal Data.”

“For us, human dignity and the inviolability of private life are of the highest value,” the party stressed, highlighting the importance of prompt and transparent response to threats to citizens’ personal information.
