More Than 200 Grams of Nails and Screws Removed from Man’s Stomach in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A 29-year-old man was hospitalized at the Samarkand branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care with severe abdominal pain, the center’s press service reported.

Diagnostic examinations and laboratory tests revealed a large number of metallic objects — nails and screws — in the patient’s gastrointestinal tract.

Given the seriousness of the condition, doctors decided to perform emergency surgery.

The patient underwent surgical intervention using laparotomy and gastrostomy techniques. Approximately 200 grams of metal objects were successfully removed from his abdominal cavity.

The operation lasted about one hour, said Yuldosh Kuliev, a senior physician at the center.

According to preliminary information, the man had been experiencing severe stress and, while unable to control his actions, swallowed the metal objects. His condition is currently assessed as satisfactory, and he is able to move freely.
