Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan and the Regional Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Central Asia discussed expanding cooperation to prevent crime among youth.
The Minister of Public Education of Uzbekistan Sherzod Shermatov received a delegation of the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, led by regional representative Ashita Mittal.
The parties reviewed the results of seven years of joint cooperation. It was noted that in 2013-2020, the parties in cooperation implemented projects such as “Family and school together”, “Strong family”, “Education for justice”, “Happy school” and “Line up Live up”. Some projects are still being implemented.
The issues of cooperation between MoPE and UNODC for 2020-2025, as well as the participation of representatives of the Ministry in the Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in April 2020 in Kyoto (Japan) were also discussed.
In particular, the parties discussed the participation of UNODC in the development of national strategies on youth policy and social support for youth, as well as the new school discipline "Education".
Issues related to the implementation of the program “Line up Live up” in other schools of the Ferghana Valley and regions of Uzbekistan, including the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
It was noted that education is an important factor for crime prevention among young people.
