The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber on 15 August 2017 and approved by the Senate on 24 August 2017.

The purpose of the law is to regulate relations in the field of dissemination of legal information and to provide access to it.

The state guarantees access to legal information. Citizens have the right to freely seek, receive and disseminate legal information, the document noted.

State bodies, other organizations and officials are obliged in due course to provide everyone with access to legal information.

Access to legal information is limited in the event that this information is attributed in accordance with the established procedure to information constituting state secrets or other secret protected by law, the law says.

The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan is a specially authorized state body in the field of disseminating legal information and providing access to it.

According to the law, the Ministry of Justice forms and maintains the National Database of Legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, provides, in the established procedure, access to it of individuals and legal entities.

Ways of distribution of the legal information are: dispatch of texts of regulatory legal acts; official publication of regulations; unofficial publication of normative and legal acts; legal advocacy; providing legal information to individuals and legal entities on their request.
