Mirziyoyev Reviews New Imam Bukhari Complex in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 October, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand to participate in the opening ceremony of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference.

Following tradition, the President began his visit at the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari, where Quranic surahs were recited and prayers (duas) offered.

He reviewed the final stages of construction and landscaping at the complex. Under his initiative, the sacred site was rebuilt to reflect its profound spiritual significance and the remarkable scholarly legacy of the eminent hadith compiler, who holds a distinguished place in the Islamic world. All necessary facilities for pilgrims have been provided.

The complex now spans 44 hectares and includes a mausoleum, a mosque accommodating 10,000 worshippers, an administrative building, a museum, and entrance and exit iwans. Four 75-meter minarets give the ensemble a majestic appearance.

President Mirziyoyev also inspected the mosque’s interior and the ongoing construction work, emphasizing that the complex should serve not only as a pilgrimage site but also as a center of education, enlightenment, and spiritual development, inspiring young generations.

The complex houses an innovative museum dedicated to Imam Bukhari’s life and scholarly heritage, recognizing him as the “Sultan of Hadith” in the Islamic world. Exhibits feature information on 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran, the genealogy of Prophet Muhammad, his life in Mecca and Medina, and the process of collecting and recording hadiths.

Surrounding the complex, construction of hotels and service facilities is nearing completion, including one four-star, two three-star, and 22 family hotels.

The President instructed that the complex’s operations be efficiently organized, visitor amenities enhanced, and green spaces expanded. At the conclusion of his visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev planted tree saplings on the complex grounds as a gesture of goodwill.
