Mirziyoyev Reviews Major Construction Projects and Future Plans for New Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Directorate for the Construction of New Tashkent, where he was briefed on the city’s current and planned development projects.

The foundation stone for the new metropolis was laid in 2023. A total of 19,700 hectares in the Yukorichirchik and Urtachirchik districts have been allocated for development, with the master plan prepared by the British company Cross Works.

Currently, over a hundred projects are underway, adhering to international standards and modern urban planning solutions. By the end of 2025, construction works covered three million square meters. Several residential complexes are nearing completion, and infrastructure projects are advancing actively. The first development phase encompasses 6,000 hectares, providing living and working conditions for 600,000 people. Upon completion, New Tashkent is expected to become a metropolis with a population of around two million.

A key focus of the city’s development is the engineering infrastructure: large underground utilities are being laid, including single- and double-section collectors for heating, water supply, electricity, and telecommunications networks. Concurrently, tunnels and underground parking facilities are being constructed to create an efficient transport system. Green spaces are being developed, including a ten-kilometer riverside park, with around one million trees and shrubs planted.

Mirziyoyev emphasized the importance of adhering to “green” principles, implementing modern solutions for metro and electric bus systems, and developing barrier-free routes for pedestrians and cyclists. The new city will host buildings for more than 60 government agencies, some of which are already operating from temporary facilities.

Investor interest in the project remains high. Following auctions, agreements were signed for 24 commercial lots worth approximately US$2 billion. These funds will finance hotels, service facilities, and architecturally unique buildings. Currently, about 10,000 people are employed in construction; upon completion, hundreds of thousands of high-tech jobs are expected to be created.

The President was also presented with plans for tourist, service, and entertainment facilities in New Tashkent, as well as major investment projects across the country. Mirziyoyev stressed that all decisions must be based on scientific approaches, reflect the national character, and prioritize the interests of the population.
