Mirziyoyev Proposes Hosting Next “C5+1” Summit in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed holding the next “C5+1” summit in Samarkand.
He participated in the meeting of leaders from Central Asian countries and the United States in the “C5+1” format, held at the White House in Washington under the chairmanship of U.S. President Donald Trump. In addition to the President of Uzbekistan, the summit brought together Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, and Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
During the summit, President Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude to the U.S. leader for organizing the event, noting that over the past ten years, the “C5+1” format has become an effective tool for developing regional trade as well as transport and energy links. He emphasized that the current summit marks a new stage in advancing strategic dialogue between Central Asia and the United States.
To further expand cooperation, Mirziyoyev proposed a series of initiatives. These include the creation of a permanent rotating Secretariat among the participating countries, the establishment of a Coordinating Council at the ministerial level on investment and trade to ensure systematic dialogue between government agencies, companies, and financial institutions, and the launch of the Central Asian Investment Partnership Fund.
The President of Uzbekistan also reaffirmed his country’s readiness to work closely with the United States on implementing major transport, communication, and energy projects connecting Central Asia with the South Caucasus and Europe. To coordinate efforts in the exploration, extraction, and processing of critical minerals, he proposed the creation of a Special Committee and measures to promote finished products within global supply chains.
In the agricultural sector, the initiative includes the creation of a Regional Partnership for Agrotechnology Innovations, incorporating American technologies. To strengthen humanitarian ties, Mirziyoyev supported organizing a joint exhibition of Central Asian cultural heritage in leading U.S. museums.
The summit concluded with the adoption of several multilateral documents. President Mirziyoyev proposed holding the next “C5+1” summit in Samarkand, underscoring the importance of further developing cooperation between the countries of the region and the United States.
