Mirziyoyev Orders Expanded Benefits for Military Personnel
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on 6 April focused on strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and enhancing social support for military personnel.
During the discussion, officials emphasized that youth engagement remains a key priority of state policy. Reforms are being implemented nationwide to ensure young people have access to modern education, vocational training, and employment opportunities.
It was noted that during the extended session of the Security Council on 13 January 2026, priority tasks were identified to elevate the prestige of military service and create conditions for youth self-realization. At the April meeting, proposals were considered concerning conscript training and the promotion of reading within the armed forces.
Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, conscripts will gain new opportunities. They will have the right to enroll in higher education institutions and study remotely while serving. Preparatory courses and exam training will be organized in military units in collaboration with universities.
Contract-based soldiers pursuing higher education will be eligible for low-interest loans. Conscripts admitted to universities will be equated with students of military faculties, and upon graduation, they will be granted the rank of reserve lieutenant.
Special admission procedures will also apply for servicemen who have completed service successfully or achieved high results in national and international sports competitions and academic Olympiads.
A short-term training initiative called “One Soldier – One Profession,” lasting three to six months, will provide state-certified professional skills. Citizens completing military service and seeking employment in the private sector will have their vocational training costs reimbursed through the State Employment Support Fund via a voucher system. Those entering public service will receive an additional 10% advantage in testing.
The meeting also highlighted the promotion of reading culture among military personnel. The national contest “Shield of Spirituality” will be held annually, progressing from unit-level competitions to a nationwide final. Winners will receive the Supreme Commander’s grand prize, a modern electric vehicle, along with diplomas. Runners-up will be awarded monetary prizes and recognition.
Following the meeting, President Mirziyoyev approved the proposals and instructed their implementation, emphasizing that these measures aim to develop a skilled, professionally trained, and patriotic cadre.
The Minister of Defense also reported on the current progress in strengthening military security and enhancing the combat readiness of Uzbekistan’s Armed Forces.
