Mirziyoyev Meets EU Delegation to Discuss Trade and Investment
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 November, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the European Union, led by European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Síkela, and European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, who are on an official working visit to the country.
The meeting focused on strengthening trade, economic, and investment cooperation, building on agreements reached during the high-level visit to Brussels in October of this year. EU representatives conveyed warm greetings from the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
President Mirziyoyev congratulated the commissioners on the successful hosting in Tashkent of the 3rd Central Asia–EU Economic Forum and the Investor Forum on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. These events launched new regional-scale joint projects. He noted the dynamic growth of Uzbek-European relations and the emergence of a comprehensive agenda for bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
This year, Uzbekistan signed the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement with the EU, held summits in Samarkand and Brussels, and completed negotiations on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization. Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the EU has grown by nearly 7 percent, and the practical implementation of the agreement is expected to significantly boost trade volumes and investment inflows.
President Mirziyoyev and the EU commissioners discussed further improving institutional cooperation mechanisms to expand and diversify trade, develop joint investment projects in industrial cooperation, transport, digitalization, energy, healthcare, critical minerals, and other priority sectors. They also exchanged views on current international and regional issues.
