Mirziyoyev in Saint Petersburg Discusses Expanding Uzbekistan’s Cooperation with the EAEU

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 21 December, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in the status of an observer state. The session, chaired by Alexander Lukashenko, brought together leaders from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, as well as representatives of observer countries and invited states.

In his speech, Mirziyoyev emphasized that expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is a priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign economic policy. Over the past four years, the country’s trade turnover with EAEU member states has nearly doubled, approaching US$20 billion.

The President highlighted the implementation of the Cooperation Plan with the Eurasian Economic Commission through 2026, which includes around 40 initiatives in trade, industry, finance, agriculture, and transport. Next year, the fifth meeting of the joint working group is planned to take place in Tashkent.

Mirziyoyev underscored the importance of digitalizing trade and freight transportation, implementing e-commerce, combating climate change, and gradually eliminating trade barriers. He proposed establishing a “Uzbekistan–EAEU” Coordination Group to harmonize tariff and non-tariff regulations, as well as preparing roadmaps for industrial cooperation, digital platforms, and infrastructure projects.

The President expressed interest in joining EAEU technological platforms in biomedicine, new materials, agrotechnologies, energy, and robotics. In addition, Uzbekistan showed readiness to integrate into the Union’s tourism information resources.

Concluding his remarks, Mirziyoyev reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s strong commitment to expanding comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership with the Eurasian Economic Union.
