Mirziyoyev: Imam Bukhari Complex to Become a Center of Science and Pilgrimage
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 November, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Samarkand region to review socio-economic reforms and set upcoming regional priorities. The visit began traditionally with a visit to the Imam Bukhari mausoleum, where Quranic verses were recited and prayers offered.
On the President’s initiative, the complex has been reconstructed on a grand scale, reflecting the high status and immense spiritual heritage of the eminent hadith scholar, who holds an esteemed place in the Islamic world.
Spanning 45 hectares, the complex includes a majestic mausoleum, a mosque for 10,000 worshippers, an administrative building, a museum, and ceremonial gateways. Four 75-meter minarets at the corners of the ensemble add monumental grandeur to the site.
Designed not only as a pilgrimage destination but also as a center of science, spiritual education, and moral example, the complex features an innovative museum highlighting the life, scholarly journey, and intellectual legacy of Imam Bukhari, recognized as the Sultan of Hadith in the Islamic world. The museum also showcases his contributions to Islamic science and culture, aiming to inspire visitors, particularly the youth.
Previously, the complex could accommodate up to 12,000 visitors per day. Now, it is equipped to serve up to 65,000 guests daily in accordance with international standards. The site also houses the International Scientific Research Center of Imam Bukhari and a Hadith Studies School.
For the construction of hotels, commercial, and service facilities, 570 billion soums have been allocated. The complex now includes one four-star hotel, two three-star hotels, and twenty-two family guest houses. Infrastructure is fully equipped with engineering networks, and the territory is landscaped. By 2026, large-scale greening and parking areas are planned to be completed.
Emphasizing that the Imam Bukhari mausoleum symbolizes the spiritual wealth and creative potential of the Uzbek people, the President instructed officials to ensure the high-quality and timely completion of the complex’s final landscaping and infrastructure works.
