Mirziyoyev Approves Program to Create Model Districts, Cities, and Mahallas in “New Uzbekistan”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a comprehensive set of measures to establish model districts, cities, and mahallas across the country as part of the vision for a “New Uzbekistan.”
The program covers 33 districts and cities of the republic, including Yangiyul, Chirchik, Margilan, Asaka, Buka, Chinaz, Naryn, Gijduvan, Chimbay, and Kungrad districts.
In each rural district, two mahallas will be selected for transformation into model communities.
The selection process considers factors such as proximity to borders and major highways, the role of a center among surrounding mahallas, population size and density, the need for infrastructure modernization, opportunities for organized placement of business projects based on master plans, availability of vacant plots and premises for trade, services, and small-scale industry, as well as the potential for creating craft centers and micro-production facilities.
On the model territories, the “Place of Development and Leadership” program will be implemented. It aims to stimulate industrial production, services, and agriculture to achieve economic growth at least 2–3% higher than the regional average. Annually, at least 10 major investment projects with a total value of around US$50 million are planned to be launched.
The program also provides for the production of high value-added goods, expansion of industrial zone capacities, and the export of products from at least 3–5 new enterprises. Each district or city will have one enterprise producing national branded products with the involvement of foreign technologists, marketers, and specialists, while 10 entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to participate in international industrial exhibitions to exchange expertise.
Within two months, roadmaps for accelerated industrial development in the model cities and districts must be prepared.
These documents should include the placement of prospective investment projects on vacant plots within industrial zones and the creation of new industrial zones with fully equipped infrastructure.
Special attention will be given to “green” industrial projects using energy-efficient technologies aimed at minimizing environmental impact.
