Mirziyoyev Approves Military Education Reform: University of Military Security and Defense Established
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on new proposals to reform the country’s military education system.
The need for modernization was outlined at the Security Council meeting on 21 February this year. In preparing the concept, the experience of more than 20 foreign countries was studied, which made it possible to develop a new national model for training military personnel.
Under the project, the Armed Forces Academy will be reorganized into the University of Military Security and Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The new institution will unite all educational facilities of the Ministry of Defense: five institutes, the Higher School for Sergeant Training, as well as the Aviation and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Specialist Training School, both of which will be granted institute status. This single vertical structure will enhance the army’s potential, expand dual education programs, and accelerate the integration of scientific research into practice.
Special focus will be placed on the training of sergeants. The Higher School for Sergeant Training will introduce a new system aimed at developing leadership skills and practical proficiency in modern weapons and tactics.
Another innovation will be the hybrid “2+2” model: second-year students at civilian universities will be selected to undergo military training in 18 specialized fields, including psychology, communications, logistics, and supply.
To support talented youth, the State Scholarship of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief will be introduced starting this academic year. Scholarship holders will be able to enter a military master’s program without exams after completing their bachelor’s degree and continue their studies for up to five years.
A dual-degree system will also be implemented, allowing military academy graduates to receive diplomas in both civilian and military professions across 36 specialties, ensuring career prospects even after completing their service.
The reform will also increase the demand for qualified military educators, whose training is planned to be organized in leading countries worldwide.
The President approved the proposals and instructed officials to ensure their effective implementation.
