Mirziyayev submits draft law “On combating corruption” to parliament

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14 October 2016, Interim President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev submitted a draft law “On combating corruption” to the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (lower house of the parliament” as the legislative initiative.

The draft law was developed in order to improve legislative framework for combating corruption based on advanced foreign experience.

The document is directed at complex legislative regulation of legal relations in fighting corruption, improving efficiency of anti-corruption measures, conducted by the state bodies, organizations and institutes of civil society, as well as fully elimination of corruption from all spheres of public life, creating intolerance to corruption among public via improving legal awareness and legal culture.

The draft law sets main principles and directions of state policy on fighting corruption, system of authorized bodies, participation of self-governing bodies and civil society institutes, mass media and citizens in the process, as well as international cooperation in the sphere.

The law envisages creation of Republican inter-departmental commission on combating corruption, which will coordinate activities on fighting corruption and strengthen cooperation between various bodies. It will include representatives of public businesses unions and other institutes of civil society.

Adoption of the document will create necessary legal guarantees on protecting rights and freedoms of the citizens and allow to prevent illegal encroachment on private property, illegal interference to activities of businesses and help to growth of entrepreneurship activities and investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.
