Ministry of Transport Reminds Freight Carriers of Obligations to Compensate Road Damage
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan has reminded all national freight carriers of the necessity to comply with regulations governing the operation of oversized and heavy vehicles.
According to the previously approved Regulation (Appendix No. 2 to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 710 dated 28 October 2024), the calculation of road damage caused by violations of rules for transporting heavy cargo is determined per kilometer as follows: up to 50 tons – 30% of the base calculation value; up to 80 tons – 1 base calculation value; 80 tons and above – 3 base calculation values. If the distance traveled cannot be determined, the damage is calculated based on 200 km.
Compensation for damage is enforced by the Transport Supervision Inspectorate and the Committee for Highways. Administrative measures do not exempt freight carriers from responsibility for damage caused.
The Ministry emphasizes that adherence to weight and dimension limits is essential to prevent premature deterioration of roads and bridges, ensure traffic safety, and regulate the transport of cargo exceeding established parameters.
Freight carriers are strongly advised to strictly follow the provisions of the Regulation and to treat the country’s roads as a shared national asset.
