Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan: issues with regulation of the state language sphere is internal affair of the state

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In connection with a discussion in the media and social networks, statements by some officials of foreign countries regarding introduction of new requirements into the national legislation on use of state language in public organization, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan notes the following.

Issues related to the regulation of the state language are the exclusive prerogative of the state’s internal policy and no one can interference to this issue.

A respectful attitude to the languages of nations and nationalities living in the territory of our country is legislatively fixed in the republic.

The Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan in article 4 states that the Republic of Uzbekistan provides respect for the languages, customs and traditions of the nations and nationalities living on its territory, creating conditions for their development.

In addition, according to article 9 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the state language” of 1995, work in government and administration is conducted in the state language.

Also, the law guarantees the possibility of unhindered learning and use of the mother tongue, in particular in the field of education, contacting state bodies, access to legal and other information, as well as business circulation.

This is evidenced by a large number of schools and universities with instruction in different languages, including branches of foreign universities, cultural centers, periodicals, television and radio programs, and much more.

In connection with the foregoing, there is no reason for concern regarding the situation of other nationalities living in Uzbekistan. It is about the implementation of the said Law of 1995.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan expresses hope for objectivity, impartiality and respect for the discussion of issues related to compliance with the requirements of the legislation on the state language in our country.
