Ministry of Energy: AI Integration Across All Sectors in Uzbekistan Will Increase Demand for Affordable Electricity

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across all sectors of Uzbekistan’s economy will drive higher demand for affordable and sustainable electricity. This was stated by Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov during a meeting on 6 October.

According to the minister, the President has instructed the government to develop the country’s energy infrastructure with a view to the growing future demand for electricity required for digitalization and AI-based projects. “With the introduction of AI, the demand for cheap and competitive electricity will rise. Therefore, it has been instructed to create the necessary infrastructure base and implement projects that take these needs into account,” Mirzamakhmudov said in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel.

He emphasized that these directives encompass the entire energy system — from resource extraction and transportation to electricity generation and distribution. Special attention will be given to workforce training, education, and the direct application of AI in production processes to improve efficiency. Based on these instructions, a dedicated program will be developed for the advancement and integration of artificial intelligence in the energy sector.

First Deputy Minister of Digital Technologies Oleg Pekos noted that the draft resolution on AI development is being revised to incorporate the President’s feedback.

“If earlier the priority areas were healthcare, agriculture, and the banking and financial sectors, now separate roadmaps for the implementation of artificial intelligence will be developed for all sectors of the economy within 10 days. Particular emphasis is being placed on workforce development, the scaling of educational platforms, and the inclusion of AI training in high school and university programs,” Pekos said.
