Minister of Health made a presentation at the session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The 67th session of the European Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO), which began its work on 11 September, entered the active phase. At the event held in Budapest, along with 53 member countries, the delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov is also taking part in the event.

The participants are discussing topical issues, including general work program of WHO for 2019-2023, implementation of the Health 2020 policy, strengthening of interaction between Member States in improving access to medicines in the WHO European Region, the Ministry’s Information Service said.

At the 67th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, the Minister of Health, Alisher Shadmanov, made a presentation. He informed the audience about the reforms in the healthcare system of Uzbekistan as part of the implementation of the Health 2020 policy.

In 2012, along with 53 member states of the Regional Committee for Europe of the World Health Organization, Uzbekistan also approved the Health 2020 strategy. At present, systematic work is carried out on four priority areas, Minister Alisher Shadmanov said.

He said that Uzbekistan implements measures to fundamentally reform health care, education, improve quality of life of the population, ensure food security, protect the environment and ecology.

Cardinally decreasing rates of infectious and non-infectious diseases considered one of the priority areas of the strategy Health 2020. In this regard, is it planned to organize vaccinations among children against twelve dangerous diseases.

Shadmanov said that Uzbekistan is also improving legal base of healthcare system. He noted that recently over 30 legal documents were adopted in the country to improve healthcare system in the country.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan achieves high indicators in the field of treatment of tuberculosis diseases, which have become an urgent topic of discussion at the international event. In the frequency, today in the country the effectiveness of treatment of tuberculosis diseases is 87 percent. If we take into account that it is 85 percent across the world, then we can better understand the scale of the results in this direction, he said.

In addition, in May 2017, the results of measures against tuberculosis diseases were announced in the WHO forum. It was announced that Uzbekistan’s TB service is in top ten among the 53 member states of the WHO European Committee.

After the speech of the Minister of Health WHO Director General Tedros Gebreyeses and the Director of the European Regional Committee Zsuzsanna Jakab highly appreciated the reforms in the healthcare system in Uzbekistan. As noted, the new system, emerging in medicine in Uzbekistan, fully corresponds to the strategy "Health 2020".
