Mini-Libraries Open at Seven Stations of the Tashkent Metro
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Mini-libraries have opened at seven stations of the Tashkent Metro as part of the "Turon Book Station" project.
According to the metro authorities, bookshelves have been installed at the “Turkistan,” “Buyuk Ipak Yuli,” “Beruni,” “Chilanzar,” “Mingurik,” “Tashkent,” and “Dustlik” stations.
The shelves feature works by both domestic and international authors. Passengers can take books to read during their journey and leave them at the next station for other readers.
The project is implemented jointly by Turon Bank, the Republican Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, the Ministry of Transport, and the Tashkent Metro. In the near future, mini-libraries will be installed at all metro stations in the city.
The initiative aims to promote reading among the capital’s residents: instead of scrolling through their phones during commutes, passengers can spend time with useful literature and discover new books.
