Milliy Tiklanish Leader Calls for Preschool and Primary Education in Children’s Native Language

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Alisher Kadyrov, leader of the Milliy Tiklanish party, has called for children to be raised and receive their initial education in their native language, speaking in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis during the first reading of a draft law on the protection of women and the priority interests of the child.

Kadyrov said that the current practice, under which children are compelled to be raised and receive primary education in a non-native language, hinders the formation of essential knowledge and values.

“A child should be brought up in kindergarten and at the primary education stage in their native language, laying the foundation for learning. Today, they are forced to study in a foreign language, and as a result they receive neither proper upbringing nor knowledge,” the politician stressed.

He added that the current Law on Education enshrines freedom of choice of the language of instruction, and argued that the new version of the bill should clearly establish education and upbringing in a child’s native language as a priority interest of the child.

The Milliy Tiklanish faction said it intends to continue working on the draft law and seek the inclusion of the relevant provisions ahead of its second reading.
