Miller: Supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan up 20%

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Supplies of Russian gas to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan increased by 20% in 2025. The figure was announced by Gazprom Chairman Alexey Miller at a meeting on the preliminary results of the year.

According to Miller, the growth in exports is the result of previously reached agreements, including the document signed on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum to increase deliveries to Kazakhstan in 2025–2026. He clarified that deliveries to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan also rose over the current year.

“By the end of the year, supplies of Russian gas to these three countries have grown by 20%. These are very, very substantial figures,” the head of Gazprom noted.

The company intends to continue expanding supplies to Central Asian countries. In particular, negotiations are underway with Kazakhstan on the construction of new gas transmission capacities and the supply of gas to the country’s north-eastern regions. “We are focused on long-term cooperation, taking into account the growing gas demand in Central Asia,” Miller stressed.

He added that despite the region’s own resources, high economic growth rates require additional fuel volumes. “We clearly understand that in the medium term, Russian gas will be in very, very high demand there. We are already carrying out the necessary preparatory work while increasing supplies at a rather rapid pace,” Miller concluded.

Uzbekistan and Gazprom have signed a two-year contract for natural gas supplies. Under the agreement, the Russian company will supply 9 million cubic meters of gas per day to the republic, equivalent to approximately 2.8 billion cubic meters per year.

Deliveries of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan began in October 2023. The fuel is purchased to partially cover shortages during the autumn-winter season. Tashkent is also considering the possibility of increasing import volumes and aims to develop long-term cooperation in the gas sector.

At the same time, Uzbekistan plans to modernize its trunk gas transmission system to expand the throughput capacity of the northern direction in 2024–2030. The first stage of the program, valued at US$500 million, will allow imports to increase to 32 million cubic meters per day.
