Migration Agency Warns of Scammers Collecting Money for “Repatriation” of Bodies from Abroad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency has warned citizens about cases of fraud involving fictitious fundraising for the repatriation of the bodies of compatriots who have died abroad.

According to the agency, social media platforms have recently seen a surge in posts urging people to transfer money to bank cards under the pretext of transporting the bodies of deceased Uzbek nationals back to their homeland.

The agency has called on citizens to remain vigilant and not to fall victim to such appeals.

It noted that in a number of cases, fraudsters use outdated or unreliable information, deliberately playing on people’s emotions in order to unlawfully obtain money.

The Migration Agency stressed that encountering such messages, citizens should under no circumstances transfer funds. The only lawful and reliable way to address such matters is through authorized state institutions.

The agency also reminded the public that in the event of the death of an Uzbek citizen abroad, all expenses related to transporting the body back to Uzbekistan are fully covered by the Migration Fund, and no additional collection of money from citizens is предусмотрено.

For reliable information and official assistance, citizens are advised to contact the Migration Agency directly by phone at (71) 202–33–55, via the short number 1282, or through the Telegram bot @huquqiy_yordam_uzbot.
