Metso Records €70 Million in New Orders as Part of AGMK Copper Smelter Project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Finnish company Metso has recorded the third tranche of orders under the project to construct a copper smelting plant for Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK). The orders were reflected in the company’s financial reporting in line with contracts for equipment supply and engineering services announced on 9 August 2024.
The first tranche of orders worth €146 million was booked in the fourth quarter of 2024, while the second tranche totaling €50 million was recorded in the first quarter of 2025.
As of the fourth quarter of 2025, orders amounting to €70 million have been recorded in Metso’s Minerals segment. Any potential additional orders will be announced once contracts are signed and come into effect.
AGMK is Uzbekistan’s largest copper producer. The company manufactures cathode copper, gold, silver, zinc, molybdenum, lead concentrate, and other products.
Metso’s scope of supply for the new copper smelting complex includes flash smelting and flash converting technologies, gas cleaning systems, as well as equipment for sulfuric acid production.
The design capacity of the new copper smelter, which will be integrated with AGMK’s existing production facilities in Almalyk, is 300,000 tons of copper cathodes per year and up to 1.8 million tons of sulfuric acid per year.
