MetProm starts to supply basic process equipment to the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- MetProm Group of Companies (Russia) has begun deliveries of basic technological equipment to the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant (TMZ), the press service of TMZ said in a statement.

Deliveries are carried out within the framework of the contract with a Russian company, envisaging the organization of the production of cold-rolled sheet metal with protective coatings, totaling more than 233 million euros.

Construction of Uzbekistan’s flagship industry, and TMZ will be one of the most modern enterprises in the country, producing import-substituting products, is carried out in record time. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

“Today, when in Uzbekistan the issues of import substitution are the most relevant, the selected production technology will allow the plant to offer a new high-quality product corresponding to the level of consumer properties of the best world analogues. The MetProm group of companies has extensive experience in the design and construction of rolling mills,” Andrei Deineko, President of MetProm, said.

The equipment is manufactured by the Italian concern Danieli, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of metallurgical equipment. When choosing a supplier, not only the cost of equipment was taken into account, but also the most advanced technological and technical solutions, low production costs and high quality of finished products, confirmed by the concern.

“The plant is of strategic importance for our country, it will become one of the most modern enterprises for the production of cold-rolled steel with protective anti-corrosion coatings for the construction industry, mechanical engineering and other sectors of the economy. Putting it into operation will allow the republic to reduce its dependence on imports of metallurgical products and significantly increase its industrial potential,” Zafar Tuychiev, general director of the Tashkent metallurgical plant, said.

According to him, now the builders are successfully moving towards the fulfillment of the goal set - the implementation of a pilot launch of the enterprise by the end of this year.

The capacity of the enterprise will be 500,000 tonnes of cold-rolled metal per year, which will fully cover the needs of the republic. But given that the volume of industry in the country is growing, the organization of the plant laid the possibility of an additional increase in production up to 750,000 tonnes per year.

TMZ within two years of production will reach full capacity, the planned share of exports will be 20% of total production. Export is envisaged to such countries as Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia. In most of these countries there is no such production, and the demand for rolled metal products is substantial.

MetProm Group of Companies is the general contractor for the construction of TMZ. Today it is one of the world’s leading design and construction organizations in the metallurgical industry. In Tashkent, the company carries out the design of the facility, its construction, commissioning, personnel training.
