Men Punished for Cruelty to Cats in Bostanlyk District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, two men were held accountable for cruel treatment of animals. M. Sh., 33, who mistreated cats inside a hotel, was sentenced to 15 days of administrative detention.

The court’s decision was based on Part 2 of Article 111 of the Administrative Code, which provides for up to 15 days of detention for actions causing injury or death to animals. Harsher penalties, up to six months’ imprisonment, are applied only for repeat offenses.

The second individual, A. A., 30, who also participated in the abuse and fired a gun toward the cats, received 10 days of detention under Article 220−1 of the Administrative Code for illegal possession of a firearm. The maximum penalty under this article is 15 days of detention and confiscation of the weapon for responsible parties.

Both men are employed at the hotel, though their full names have not been disclosed.

The Tashkent Region Main Department of Internal Affairs thanked citizens who reported the violation and noted that no similar incidents had been recorded in the region since December.
