Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the eve of 9 May - the Day of Remembrance and Honors, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Berlin erected a memorial plaque in honor of the Uzbek soldiers, Dunyo reports.

In accordance with the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On a worthy celebration of the 75th anniversary of the victory in World War II” from 23 October 2019, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Germany carries out consistent work to perpetuate the memory of our compatriots who valiantly fought against fascism and died in the name of freedom Homeland.

It should be noted that through cooperation with the museum, created on the site of the Stalag 326 military camp (Stalag 326 VI K Senne) in the town of Stukenbrock, the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, and the local archive, it was possible to collect valuable information about the fact that in 1941-1945, captured Uzbek soldiers were brought here.

According to the information gathered, of the 360 Uzbeks who fell into this camp, 35 were buried in the Shtukenbrok military cemetery in a mass grave. As a result of studying materials in 2018-2019 at the initiative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Germany, it turned out that another 20 of our compatriots are resting in this place.

The archives preserved information about some of them. These are Nurali Safarov from Bukhara region, who died on 5 March 1943, Abdurahmon Ruzmetov from Tashkent region, who died on 9 July 1944, Musa Isaev from Samarkand, who died on 2 June 1943, Anarbai Mirzaakhmedov from Tashkent, who died on 24 July 1944, Safar Kamolov from Bukhara, who died on 13 January 1943.

Judge of the District Detmold Judit Piersher, who attended the opening ceremony of the memorial plaque, praised the measures taken in Uzbekistan to perpetuate the memory of those killed and fought in World War II.

“The celebration of 9 May in the country as a Day of Remembrance and Honors, and respect for the memory of those killed in the war deserve high respect,” she said. - During the Second World War, 360 Uzbeks were among the captured prisoners in the Stalag 326 military camp. Perpetuating their memory, finding and finding their last refuge is a very noble cause.

To date, work on finding information about Uzbek soldiers in the archives of the Stalag 326 museum continues.
