Members of Parliament Heard the Ministry of Health’s Report on the Development of the Healthcare System

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Minister of Health Asilbek Khudayarov presented a report on the implementation of objectives outlined in the programs for the development of Uzbekistan’s healthcare system.

The report highlighted that the country is undertaking extensive reforms in medical prevention, maternal and child health protection, development of primary, specialized, and emergency medical care, state health insurance, digitalization, and human resource policy.

In 2025, three laws, three presidential decrees, two resolutions, and three Cabinet of Ministers’ decisions were adopted. A new healthcare model based on international best practices has been introduced in 15 districts and cities.

Preventive examinations have been expanded: more than 12 million citizens aged 18–40 underwent preventive check-ups, over 7 million people over 40 were screened for cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, and around 800,000 were tested for tuberculosis. Specialized centers provided examinations for over 70,000 patients and performed more than 17,000 surgical operations.

The emergency medical service handled over 13 million calls. Compact electric vehicles were introduced, the ambulance fleet increased by 1,000 units, and the number of teams grew from 1,648 to 2,865. Expenditures on pharmaceuticals increased sixteenfold, enabling response times to emergency calls to be reduced three times over.

Parliamentarians acknowledged the progress achieved but also pointed out existing shortcomings in the regions and proposed measures to further improve the healthcare system. The Minister took note of these proposals, and an agreement was reached to maintain continued parliamentary oversight of the implementation of these objectives.
