Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 18 December 2019, a meeting of the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sodik Safoev with a deputy of the House of Commons of the British Parliament Alan Duncan, who arrived in Uzbekistan to observe the parliamentary elections as an international observer, took place.

An exchange of views took place regarding the large-scale work carried out to prepare the elections and the compliance of the electoral legislation with international standards. Particularly noted were the conditions created to ensure the openness and competitiveness of the election campaign.

It was emphasized that, in preparation for the elections, trainings were held for election commissions. Modern information and communication technologies have been introduced into the election process, an extensive campaign has been conducted to clarify the essence and significance of the electoral legislation among the population.

During the conversation, Alan Duncan noted that the current elections clearly reflect the new open policy of Uzbekistan, promoting the active role of the people in the formation of a new parliament. He emphasized the importance of youth participation in the election process, an impartial and objective assessment of the election campaign. This, in his opinion, will help strengthen the image of Uzbekistan in the international arena as a country that has firmly embarked on a truly democratic development.
