Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 November 2019, a meeting of the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva with the Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko was held.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 50th plenary meeting of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States, which takes place in St. Petersburg.

During the dialogue, the current state and prospects for the further development of the Uzbek-Russian inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed.

Welcoming the Uzbek delegation, Valentina Matvienko said that her recent visit to Uzbekistan in October 2019 left her the most pleasant experience. The reforms and transformations carried out in the republic in a historically short period under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev were praised.

According to the chairman of the Federation Council, in Russia they are watching with great interest the preparations for the election of deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Kengashes, which will be held on December 22, 2019. According to the speaker, the Russian side supports the ongoing measures to improve the electoral system of Uzbekistan and the legislative acts adopted in this direction. It is noted that a representative delegation from the Russian Federation and the IPA of the CIS will arrive in the republic to monitor the upcoming elections. Confidence was expressed that the vote would be held at a high level.

According to V. Matvienko, thorough preparations are underway in Russia for the forthcoming state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Russian Federation in February 2020, which will serve to raise bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

It was emphasized that the Federation Council will contribute to saturating the parliamentary component of the program of the visit of the Uzbek leader to Russia. The Russian side welcomed the proposal of the Uzbek side to hold on the eve of the visit a regular meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission on cooperation between the Council of the Federation of the Russian Federation and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan
