Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 22 July 2020, an international scientific and practical conference was organized on the theme: "Mediation in the criminal process: theory, practice, prospects".

Research Institute of Legal Policy under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan in conjunction with the Tashkent State University of Law and MNPO "Regional Dialogue" in Uzbekistan organized the conference.

The conference was attended by senior officials of the Supreme Court, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Chamber of Lawyers and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, professors and teachers, students of the Tashkent State University of Law, the Center for Advanced Studies of Lawyers, the Russian Economic University named after G.V. Plekhanov, professional mediators, scientists in the field of mediation and foreign experts and specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, USA, Slovenia.

At the conference, legal scholars and leading experts in the field of mediation made reports on the following topics: "Some issues of improving the legal framework of mediation in Uzbekistan", "Mediation potential in the criminal legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan (review of material and procedural norms)", "Institute of Criminal Law mediation and its prospects in Uzbekistan "," Features of the use of mediation in the criminal process "," Topical issues of the institution of mediation in the criminal legislation of Uzbekistan", Jeremy Fogel - Executive Director, Berkeley Judicial Institute (USA), Lyudmila Mikhailovna Karnozova - member of the European Forum for Restorative Justice, member of the All-Russian Association of Restorative Mediation (Russia), Janez Starman - Head Mediation Center of the Law Academy (Slovenia), Zhakupov Zhandilda Azhigalievich - General Director of the ALE "Association of Mediators of Kazakhstan" (Kazakhstan), Gulsina Kozhoyarova - Chairman of the Board of the Public Association "National Mediation Center" (Kyrgyzstan).

In his speech, the Chairman of the International Commercial Arbitration (Arbitration) Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Law, professional mediator Foziljon Otakhonov informed the conference participants about the legal basis for mediation and the tasks arising from the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On measures to further improve mechanisms alternative dispute resolution”.

The conference participants also discussed the following issues: expected results of introducing the institution of mediation into the criminal process; features of regulation in the legislation of the institution of mediation in criminal proceedings; cons and difficulties of mediation in criminal proceedings; guarantees of prevention of corruption-generating factors in the implementation of mediation, as well as the economic component of mediation in criminal proceedings.
