Masdar Plans New Clean Energy Projects in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a global leader in clean energy, plans to implement several new projects in Uzbekistan, said Masdar’s Chief Operating Officer Abdulaziz Alobaidli during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in Abu Dhabi.
According to Alobaidli, Masdar currently operates five active projects in the country, and Uzbekistan remains one of the company’s key markets in Central Asia.
“We have the largest portfolio of projects in Uzbekistan. Energy reforms and broader initiatives led by the President have made the country attractive for investors. Now, many peers are entering the market, which is a positive signal for the people of Uzbekistan,” he noted.
He emphasized that the market is now highly competitive. “Previously, we were the sole investors, but now there are many players, which indicates sectoral growth,” the executive added.
In addition to existing projects, Masdar is developing new initiatives, including battery energy storage systems that will be installed near currently operating facilities. The company has also signed an investment agreement to develop up to two gigawatts of wind projects.
Currently, Masdar has seven projects in Uzbekistan: five are completed and generating electricity, while two are under construction. The majority of these projects are solar power plants.
