Manufacturer of Counterfeit Dietary Supplements Fined 82.4 Million Soums in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Department of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan has halted the illegal production of counterfeit dietary supplements, the agency’s press service reported.
Euro Lifecare, the producer of the supplement “Polifer,” filed a complaint against a local manufacturer producing a product called “Folifer.” According to the company, the product was distributed without authorization and bore a phonetic similarity to the original, potentially misleading consumers.
An inspection conducted on September 22 confirmed the violation. The Ministry of Justice classified the company’s actions as misleading and imposed a fine of 200 base calculation units (82.4 million soums) under Article 37.1 of the Law on Trademarks, Service Marks, and Appellations of Origin of Goods.
Earlier in September, the Competition Committee ordered the removal of the dietary supplement “Triortasol Orosol+Rukh” from sale due to its similarity to the product ORSA and also fined Nika Pharm for making unsubstantiated claims in the advertising of the supplement Forsil.
