Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A man in Ferghana region has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for murdering his wife after dreaming she was unfaithful, the regional court press service reports.

The tragic incident occurred in Margilan. Around 4:30 AM, the man woke up in a state of panic after a vivid dream in which his wife appeared to be cheating on him. Overwhelmed and confused, he grabbed a knife from under his pillow and stabbed the sleeping woman 13 times.

He only realized the betrayal was imaginary after the act, at which point he called for an ambulance. Unfortunately, the woman died from her injuries.

The court established that the couple, who were raising three children, had a history of conflicts and mistrust.

The Margilan City Criminal Court found the man guilty of premeditated murder under Article 97 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan and sentenced him to 16 years in prison.
