Malaysian Delegation Visits Uzbekistan to Boost Trade and Investment Cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A Malaysian business delegation led by Megan Soo, president of the Small and Medium Industries Association of Malaysia (SMITA), visited Uzbekistan to explore new trade and investment opportunities, according to the Dunyo news agency.
The delegation attended the UzProdExpo-2025 international exhibition in Tashkent and toured several major facilities, including the Food City wholesale fruit and vegetable market, Artel Electronics, Best Tastes Technology and BMB Holding.
Members also held meetings with government agencies and industry associations to discuss cooperation prospects. At the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection and the Central Export Headquarters, officials reviewed export opportunities for Uzbekistan’s fresh and dried fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts to Malaysia and other Southeast Asian markets.
The Uzbekistan Exporters Association hosted a training seminar for local companies on practical steps for entering the Malaysian market. Speakers emphasized proper product packaging in Uzbek and English, the need for JAKIM halal certification and the importance of establishing sales channels through supermarkets and distributors that meet Malaysian market requirements.
The visit concluded with the signing of two memorandums of understanding. SMITA and the Uzbekistan Exporters Association agreed to cooperate on expanding Uzbek exports to Malaysia, sharing expertise and conducting practical training. A second memorandum with the Agency for Attracting Foreign Investment aims to advance trade and investment ties and support joint projects.
Uzbekistan’s Trade and Services Association also reached an agreement with Malaysian counterparts to strengthen cooperation between retail-sector businesses in both countries.
Malaysian representatives said Uzbekistan offers broad opportunities for mutually beneficial projects. Soo said a delegation of major Malaysian companies plans to return to Uzbekistan next year.
