Major Attempt to Smuggle Potent Medications Thwarted in Ferghana Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Authorities in Ferghana region have prevented a major attempt to smuggle potent pharmaceutical drugs valued at over 6 billion soums.

According to the State Security Service, servicemen of the Border Troops, together with officers from the regional SSS department, conducted operational measures along the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border in the Polmon mahalla of Kuvasay city. During the operation, a shipment of medications abandoned by unknown individuals was discovered.

Preliminary investigation determined that seven boxes containing 53,522 packages of “Regapen” and 20,000 packages of “Zardex” had been smuggled from Kyrgyzstan. The total value of the seized drugs amounted to 6,019,980,000 soums.

A criminal case has been initiated under Part 1 of Article 246 and Part 5 of Article 251-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Efforts are ongoing to identify those involved in the smuggling.
