Lukashenko Proposed That Uzbekistan Become a Member of the EAEU
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would welcome Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization as a full member. The statement was made during a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held on Sunday in St. Petersburg.
“To be frank, we would be glad to see Uzbekistan become a full-fledged member of the EAEU in the future. You are moving in this direction and doing a great deal for it. It would be good if Uzbekistan joined our family. You will always be welcome,” Lukashenko said.
Uzbekistan has held observer status in the EAEU since 2020 and has been actively developing cooperation in key areas, including digitalization, agrotechnologies, and transit.
The Eurasian Economic Union unites five countries—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia—and has established a single economic space that ensures the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor among its member states.
