Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, deputies reviewed a draft law “On Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan ‘On Employment of the Population.’”

The draft introduces amendments aimed at strengthening social protection for women who have suffered from harassment and violence. In particular, state organizations will be obliged to employ such women if they possess the necessary knowledge and skills. Employment will be carried out on the basis of referrals issued by local labor authorities upon request from Inson Social Service Centers.

It is also established that women registered with labor authorities as job seekers may be employed without having to apply in person.

During preparation for the second reading, proposals from deputies and political party factions were taken into account, with clarifications and editorial amendments made. Specifically, to avoid ambiguous interpretations, it was clarified that referrals for employment apply not only to state organizations but also to entities with 50% or more state ownership.

The provision imposing liability on employers for unjustified refusal to hire was removed from the draft.

The bill is aimed at creating conditions for effective social support for women affected by violence by ensuring their guaranteed employment when qualified.

After discussions and responses to questions, deputies passed the draft law in its second reading.
