Legislative Chamber’s committee holds roundtable on healthy generation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Committee of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis on labour and social issues held a roundtable “Reproductive health of children and teenagers – pledge for healthy generation” on 27 December 2013.

Representative of the Government, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Public Education, Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education, Ministry of Justice, and others participated at the roundtable.

Uzbekistan carries out wide-scale measures within the state programme “Healthy mother – healthy children” and systematic work on strengthening health of public. Uzbekistan announced 2014 as the Year of Healthy Generation, which is an evidence that the government pays great attention to this sphere, the press service of the lower house of the parliament said.

In order to render specialized medical aid to children and mothers, Uzbekistan organized republican specialized scientific-practical medical centers for obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics, as well as its branches in Karakalpakstan Republic, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya and Namangan regions. There are also parental centers in Uzbekistan, which effectively work. The roundtable noted that all these helped to decrease maternity and child death.

The participants underlined that the Republican center for reproductive health of population and its 13 branches in the regions provide high quality medical aid to population, including girls. Currently, the centers are equipped with high technological medical equipment.

The participants stated within the state programme “Healthy mother – healthy child” it is necessary to attract children, especially girls, to sports.

The participants said that adoption of the laws “On prevention of iodine deficit” and “On preventing micronutrient deficit among population” helped to improve health of population. The documents helped to improve reproductive health of women, prevent such diseases micronutrient and iodine deficit among population.

The participants of the roundtable underlined necessity in organization of children gynecology and endocrinous departments in ecologically unfavorable territories of Uzbekistan.

At the end of the event, the participants decided to prepare proposals to include them to the state programme “The Year of Healthy Children”, which is currently developed in Uzbekistan.
