Legislative Chamber Approves New Boundaries of Samarkand and Adjacent Districts
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, deputies reviewed a draft resolution titled “On the Abolition of Samarkand District of Samarkand Region and on Changing the Boundaries of Akdarya, Pastdargom and Taylak Districts and the City of Samarkand.”
The decision was adopted as part of the strategic plan to transform Samarkand into a “million-plus city,” develop modern residential and non-residential facilities, meet the population’s housing needs, and ensure a comfortable urban environment through infrastructure development.
Under the draft resolution, land plots totaling 1,410.6 hectares from Akdarya District, 1,242.3 hectares from Pastdargom District, 13,308 hectares from the abolished Samarkand District, and 1,265.6 hectares from Taylak District will be incorporated into the city of Samarkand.
At the same time, 518 hectares of city land and 1,551 hectares of Samarkand District territory will be transferred to Pastdargom District, while 28,295 hectares of Samarkand District land will be reassigned to Taylak District. The categories of the land fund will remain unchanged during the transfers.
As a result of the boundary changes, the area of the city will expand from 11.8 thousand hectares to 28.9 thousand hectares, while the population is expected to increase from 604,000 to 882,000 people.
As part of the construction of new residential areas, plans include the development of 710 apartment buildings in the “Shirin” townships, the “Temir yo‘l orti” area, and the “Karasuv-2” residential zone, designed to accommodate around 309,000 residents.
The city will also see the implementation of new tourism and recreational projects, including the creation of playgrounds, a water park, hot-air balloon flight zones, recreation parks, green spaces, service facilities, and logistics centers.
The draft resolution was thoroughly discussed at neighborhood (mahalla) citizen assemblies, as well as at meetings of the Samarkand city, Akdarya, Pastdargom, Taylak, and Samarkand district Councils of People’s Deputies, and the Samarkand regional Council of People’s Deputies.
During these discussions, cartographic representations of the boundaries and their classification were approved.
Taking into account the results of public consultations and coordination with local authorities, the draft resolution was unanimously adopted by the deputies.
