Legislative Chamber Approves Law on Expanding Social Support for the Population

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In its first reading, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis conceptually reviewed a draft law aimed at supporting citizens in need of social protection.

The country continues to implement measures to strengthen social protection for its citizens and to expand the scope and types of social services provided by the state. This draft law is intended to further reinforce the system of social support for the population.

The document provides for the right to free use of urban public transport for individuals with Group I disabilities, one accompanying person, as well as for citizens recognized as equivalent to World War II veterans. This measure strengthens social protection and broadens the range of state-provided social services.

Additionally, the law stipulates that state authorities and their officials may intervene in the economic activities of individuals and legal entities engaged in passenger and freight transportation by road, and may involve employees of these organizations in other tasks, only in cases of natural or man-made emergencies and the imposition of the corresponding regime.

During the discussions, deputies raised a number of questions regarding certain provisions of the draft law and submitted proposals and comments aimed at its further improvement.

The draft law was adopted by deputies in its second reading.
